PRIX MOBIUS NORDICA RULES 2008
The high-quality competition of digital media culture, PRIX MÖBIUS NORDICA, is organized already for the 8th time in Helsinki. The purpose of the yearly competition is to introduce new artists and digital works with international potential, create networks, and support media culture production of the Nordic and Baltic regions by increasing international visibility and distribution. Winners of the Helsinki competition will represent the Nordic and Baltic regions in the final competition, Prix Möbius International. The competition is free of charge for both the participants and the audience.
- The competition is open to interactive cultural content productions, products, or artworks that are published or finalized during years 2006-2007 and created by authors who live and work in the Nordic countries, Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania.
- Possible formats of the entries are for example CD ROM, DVD, Internet, or wireless network. The organizers also welcome productions utilizing new platforms (e.g. digital television), or representing new genres (e.g. virtual communities and software art).
- The works should be high-quality cultural content productions, meeting high standards of content, audiovisual appearance and (interface) design, as well as general technical competence. Only finalized productions are accepted (no demos or unfinished works). Company presentations or technical platform demonstrations are not included in the competition.
- The language of the work can be the original one. If the work passes pre-selection, the author or his/her representative must be prepared to give a 10-15 minute audiovisual, professional-level presentation of the work in English at a ”pitching event” at Kiasma Theatre in Helsinki in March 2008.
- The works and the filled registration form must reach Medeia by January 18, 2008 at the latest.
Competition Criteria
Prix Möbius International emphasizes the following criteria (emphasis shifts according to category and definition):
- Originality and innovativity, creativity of design
- High quality of content, pedagogical value, public good
- High standard of aesthetic and technical implementation
- Successful relation of chosen expressional means to content
- Reaching the target audience
- Usability and functionality of interface design
- The status of the work next to productions already published in the same area
The language of the work can be the original one. NOTE! The winners of the Helsinki competition will continue to the international competition in Paris (in 2008) where the works will be presented in English, or alternatively in French.
Competition Goals
- support digital media culture production of the Nordic and Baltic regions and increase its international recognition
- create networks for actors within the sector (authors, artists, producers, publishers), as well as researchers and students
- clarify quality standards and give an overview of the current status and development of media culture
- present experimental digital productions from the Nordic and Baltic regions and increase their international visibility
- encourage the completion of productions and increase their distribution
- introduce each year new authors and significant productions with international potential
Competition Stages
- Registration: fill the registration form (downloadable at this web site) and send copies of your entry for pre-selection. The language of the competition is English.
- Pre-selection: the jury consists of competition organizers and experts.
- Preparation for competition: those who pass pre-selection will be given exact instructions on how to prepare their presentation, including an individual ”coaching session” from competition director.
- Prix Möbius Nordica competition: those who pass pre-selection will present their work to the jury and the audience at a ”pitching event”. Acclaimed experts from the participating countries are invited to the jury. The jury members change yearly.
- Prix Möbius International competition: winners of Prix Möbius Nordica will participate in the international final competition organized in Paris, France, in the autumn 2008. The authors will present their work to the jury in English or French.
The works and the filled registration form must reach Medeia by January 18, 2008 at the latest (postmark for that day is sufficient).
