RULES

The goals of Prix Möbius Nordica are to:

  • support media culture production of the Nordic and Baltic regions and advance their international recognition
  • create networks for actors within the sector (authors, artists, producers, publishers), researchers and students
  • create networks & new forms of collaboration between universities and media labs
  • clarify quality standards and give an overview of the status and development of new media culture
  • introduce experimental practices emerging within the field of media culture in the Nordic and Baltic region and bring them to a level of visibility internationally
  • train authors to public presentations
  • encourage the completion of productions, and enhance their distribution possibilities

You can enter the Prix Möbius Nordica competition by completing the entry form, downloadable at the web site of the competition, and by sending three copies of your work (CD ROM or DVD) for pre-selection. The jury of the pre-selection process is composed of the competition organizers and various experts. The works that pass the pre-selection stage will be invited to Helsinki, and presented to the jury and the audience at the pitching event at the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in March 2007. The Jury is composed by respected expert from participant countries.

Rules and criteria: The competition is open to interactive cultural content productions, products or artworks that are published in 2005-2006 and created by authors based in the Nordic and Baltic countries.

Possible formats of the entries are for example CD ROM, DVD, Internet, or wireless network. The organizers also welcome productions utilizing new platforms (e.g. digital television) or new genres (e.g. virtual communities and software art). The works should meet high standards as to content, audiovisual appearance and (interface) design, as well as general technical competence. Company presentations or technical platform presentations are not included in the competition.

The productions as well as the completed entry form must be at Medeia Ltd by December 15th, 2006 (the application must be postmarked no later than December 15th, 2006)

The language of the work can be the original one. NOTE! If the work passes the pre-selection stage, the author or his/her representative must be prepared to present the work in English at a pitching event at the Kiasma-theater in Helsinki in March 2007. The awarded works will be sent to the international competition held in Paris during 2007, where a presentation should be held in English (or, if possible, in French).

The PRIX MÖBIUS INTERNATIONAL competition lays emphasis on the following criteria (although the emphasis shifts according to category and definition):

  • high standard aesthetic and technical realization
  • originality and innovation, creativity of design
  • relation of chosen expressional means to content
  • usability and functionality of interface design
  • the status of the work next to productions already published in the same area


  • Selection of the works: PRIX MÖBIUS NORDICA EXPERIMENTAL

    The first Prix Möbius Nordica Experimental is focusing on VJ practices. A VJ (Video Jockey) is a performance artist who mixes and manipulates visuals, video and film and in certain cases also uses sound to create audiovisual performances.

    Rules and criteria: The call is open for VJs based in the Nordic and Baltic region.

    You can enter the competition by completing the entry form, downloadable at the web site of the competition, and by sending a demo of your work (5mins. preferably PAL) for pre-selection. The jury of the pre-selection process is composed of the competition organizers and various experts.

    Each work will be evaluated based on the general quality/originality as well as aspects such as: the matching of audio/video and narrative qualities, the inventiveness of the software/ plugin/patch and creative use of original and/or archive footage.

    The demos as well as the completed entry form must be sent to the Pixelache office by November 20th, 2006. (the application must be postmarked no later than November 20, 2006)
