RULES

The aims of PRIX MÖBIUS NORDICA are:

  • to support Nordic media culture production and advance its international recognition
  • to create networks for actors in the area (authors, producers, publishers) as well as researchers and students
  • to clarify quality standards and give a general picture of the status and development of new media culture
  • to advance the completion and distribution of productions and works
Selection of the works: You enter the competition by completing the entry form, downloadable at the web site of the competition, and by sending five copies of your work (CD ROM or DVD) for the semifinals. The jury of the semifinals consists of the organizers of the competition and various experts. In the Zapping event, altogether 15 works that have passed the semifinals will be presented to the jury and the audience. Two respected experts will be invited to the Jury from each participant country.

Rules and criteria: The competition is open for interactive culture-oriented productions, products or works that have been published or completed during year 2002, and whose authors live and work in the Nordic countries.

Possible formats of the productions and works are for example CD ROM, DVD, Internet, or wireless network. The organizers also welcome productions utilizing new platforms (e.g. digital television) or new genres (e.g. virtual communities and software art). The works should meet high standards of content production as to their content, audiovisual appearance and (interface)design, as well as general technical competence. Company presentations, or presentations of the use of technical platforms are not included in the competition.

The productions as well as the completed entry form must be at Medeia Ltd on Friday, November 29, 2002 at 3pm Finnish time at the latest.

The language of the works can be the original one. NOTE! If the work passes the semifinals, the author or his/her representative must be prepared to present the work or production in English in the zapping event at Media Centre Lume in Helsinki on Saturday, January 25th, 2003. The productions that are awarded in Finland will be sent to the international competition in Athens (in September 2003), where a presentation will be held in English, or possibly in French.

The PRIX MÖBIUS INTERNATIONAL competition lays emphasis on the following criteria (although the emphasis shifts according to category and definition):
  • scientific credibility, research value
  • pedagogical value, general interest
  • high standard aesthetic and technical realization
  • originality and innovativity of the work, creativity of design
  • relation of chosen expressional means to content
  • usability and functionality in interface design
  • the status of the work next to productions already published in the same area
